🤔 Thinking of Running? Here’s How It Works
Running in the SU elections is simpler than you might think.
Step 1: Choose Your Role
There are full-time and part-time officer positions available across campuses and regions. Choose which role you would like to run for in the Elections cover page here.
Step 2: Collect Your Signatures
You’ll need written signatures from fellow TUS students:
- President: 150 signatures
- Deputy President: 100 signatures
- Vice President: 70 signatures
- Part-Time Officer: 50 signatures
👉 Each signature must include the student’s full name and student number.
Virtual signatures may be accepted on an exceptional basis for students who are unable to reasonably access campus during the nomination period (e.g. placement or approved off-campus commitments). Candidates seeking to use virtual signatures must contact sustudentvoice@su.tus.ie in advance, outlining the reason for the request. Approval will be applied consistently to ensure fairness to all candidates. Each virtual signature must include the supporter’s full name, student number, and student email address. These signatures can be collected by using a Google Form created by you, the candidate.
The Students’ Union reserves the right to verify or spot-check submitted details to confirm eligibility and authenticity. In-person signatures remain the standard method where access to campus is reasonably possible.
Step 3: Write Your Manifesto
Your manifesto is your chance to tell students:
- Who you are
- Why you’re running
- What you want to change
Key points for your manifesto:
Maximum 4 A4 pages (back-to-back)
No logos, sponsorships, or SU branding
Submitted alongside your signatures
Step 4: Submit Everything Before 4pm Friday 13th
You must submit by email:
- Cover page from step 1, which you can find here
- Your signed nomination sheets (student signatures)
- Your completed manifesto
- A photo of your student ID or an official TUS registration letter.
- A Passport-like photo of yourself from the shoulders up (not a selfie!) We need this for our socials and website to help students see who they are voting for.
📧 Send all documents to:

🧑💻 Candidate Information Meeting (Required)
All candidates must attend an online candidate meeting on
📅 Monday 16th February at 1:00pm
This meeting explains:
- Election rules
- Campaigning guidelines
- What to expect during voting and hustings
Attendance is mandatory unless exceptional circumstances apply.
🗳️ How Voting Works
Voting takes place online using the Mi-Voice system
Every student gets one transferable vote
Voting is open from 3rd to 4th March
💬 Why Get Involved?
Being an SU Officer means:
- Representing students
- Driving real change on campus
- Gaining leadership, advocacy, and professional experience
- Making your mark on TUS student life
If you’ve ever had an idea for improving student experience, this is your chance to act on it.
