STUDENT UNION ELECTIONS Q&A
When do the elections take place?
The Elections take place in March each year to elect the officers for the next academic year.
If elected, when do I start?
The term of office begins on July 1st and ends on the following June 30th .
How many hours a week do I work?
33 hours a week. 9-5pm Monday to Friday and 9-3pm on Friday
Who can run for office?
All current students of TUS.
Do I have to have completed my final year to be an officer?
No. You may be an officer at any stage of your studies, provided of course you get approval to defer your course.
Can I run for any SU position?
Any student is entitled to run for any position that he/she/they wish to once they run for a position in the campus or region in which they were a student
Do I get paid?
Yes, all officers are paid a salary, paid weekly
Do I get holidays?
Yes 23 days per annum plus Christmas
What do I do to run?
For a full-time officer, you must get the nomination of 100 students, a copy of your student ID and a manifesto and submit it to the union. Full details of this will be provided in the TUSSU Electoral Handbook issued before each election.
Am I qualified to be a student union officer?
There is no qualification to be an SU officer. Your time as a student is the best preparation possible as you will be dealing with student issues that you may well have encountered during your time at TUS. There is ample support for you as an officer from your fellow officers and the full-time union staff
Do I get training?
Yes, full training is given during the first weeks of July. Training is provided by former officers’ union staff and external trainers with experience in student union affairs. Also, each officer attends USI officer training with other student unions. All are designed to equip you for the job ahead!

Deputy President Midwest – Clare St/ Ennis/ Thurles/Clonmel/Moylish only
Deputy President Postgraduate Affairs – All Campuses
Vice President for Education Midlands – Athlone
Vice President for Welfare Midlands- Athlone
Vice President for Education and Welfare Moylish
Vice President for Education and Welfare Clare St/Ennis
Vice President for Education and Welfare Thurles/Clonmel
Part-time Positions are:
